New Moms

From coast to coast, from sleep tips to restful crafts, our chapters have been hosting sleep-focused events and activities. Here's what we've learned to help you survive those wakeful hours

It was supposed to be just a walk by the lake, a low-maintenance way to get out of the house. Little did momstown editor Sonia Verma know what she was getting into. And that there was no getting out.

momstown chapters offer a full range of early education-based, whole child-focused programming that seek to connect moms in their own local communities.

We base all of our programming and events on six educational program pillars and a teacher-designed curriculum plan. We cater to ages 0-6, starting right from the early days home with a newborn, all the way up to school-agers participating in weekend family events.

Nursing any newborn is not only about giving that new baby the best nutrients, but also about making sure that breastfeeding moms put their own nutrition first. Here are some tips and snack ideas to help with milk production and stay healthy while feeding your baby.

Louise Gleeson shares her Story of Motherhood, about her struggles to embrace her own emotions about motherhood and celebrating Mother's Day. It is an incredibly honest story that will help other new moms know that they are indeed worth it.

A lovely submission to our Stories of Motherhood contest, from Sarah McQueen. Sarah is a member of momstown Kitchener-Waterloo.

The first year of being a mother is impossible to explain. Sometimes I try and sum it up and the best I can do is explain it like so: It has been the longest shortest best hardest craziest calmest most exhausting most exhilarating simplest most complicated most exciting least exciting joyful year of my life. Phewf. Really though, that’s the only way I can sort of try and describe it. It’s a total trip. Such a conflicted time, yet everything feels so natural. You’re so confused, but at the same time, when you feel your baby in your arms, so sure that this is exactly where you are supposed to be.

It’s that time of year! All of a sudden, the population of your town or city seems to explode as everyone comes out of hibernation to walk, jog, cycle or stroll. If you’ve got a little one and the itch to get outside, why not turn your next walk into a workout? Better yet, grab a few girlfriends and make a weekly date for a stroller fitness workout together in your local park!

You birthed a beautiful baby and now are struggling with extra weight from your pregnancy. You are not alone! Most women feel uncomfortable with their weight after having baby. And the media, with spotlights on celebrities who seemingly shed the pounds fast and easily, only serves to reinforce for women feelings of disappointment, sometimes shock, at what a true, natural post-partum body looks like.

Need a gift for a new mom? How about making her a batch of these nutritious cookies?
