momstown's baby basics program - a great first step in connecting moms in local communities
momstown chapters offer a full range of early education-based, whole child-focused programming that seek to connect moms in their own local communities.
We base all of our programming and events on six educational program pillars and a teacher-designed curriculum plan. We cater to ages 0-6, starting right from the early days home with a newborn, all the way up to school-agers participating in weekend family events.

Our Baby Basics program is often a new mom's first introduction to momstown - it's designed for moms with babies aged 0-12 months who are looking to connect with other moms with infants. But it's much more than a "new mommies" group - it's also an opportunity for moms to learn about topics important to them, try out baby's first keepsake craft, and make friendships that may last a lifetime.
Baby Basics usually runs weekly (check your local chapter listings by clicking on the orange dropdown box on the right of this page) and moms can join in at any time. Like all momstown programs, it's included with your $85/yr program pass and there is no start or end date - it's ongoing and flexible to allow moms to join when they feel ready.
What does a Baby Basics program look like? While each chapter will introduce different local experts and have their own unique community feel, you can expect to hear about topics that interest you - such as feeding, baby signing, infant massage, sleep patterns, and baby wearing - as well as have time to just chat and connect informally with other moms. We also offer Baby Picassos as part of this program - so you'll have the chance to see how your baby can engage in a keepsake craft activity at a very young age (you'll be surprised!)

We've got a great Literacy partner on board for Baby Basics - Scholastic Canada provides baby books to all of our Baby Basics groups across the country! Each month our groups will try out a different book (board books, soft books, perfect 'first' books) and one lucky mom wins a copy to take home.

Sensory play is also a big part of exploring with babies - this Baby Basics morning was all about exploring. What a great way to engage your baby (and leave the mess behind!)

Even the tiniest little ones can make art (and treasured keepsakes!) with our Baby Picassos simple and sweet art activities.

Guest experts (like baby signing, pictured here) are a great way to find out more about topics specifically designed for moms of babies.
While we've got lots on the go for a well-rounded program, Baby Basics is also designed just to let moms connect and get to know each other in a relaxed environment. It's a great way to meet other moms at your stage of parenting, right in your community. These may be friendships for life!
With so many momstown programs on the calendar (20+ a month in each chapter!) there's no better time than now to join your local momstown community and start taking advantage of all of the early education programming we have to offer. A program pass is only $85/yr (qualifies for the Children's Arts Tax credit) you have access to all of our in-person programs, online message boards, member discounts, and more. We're connecting Canadian moms, and we'd love for you to join us.
