Easy Fire Truck Craft for Preschool Kids

February 27, 2013momstownRecessNo comments
We have loved learning about fire trucks this month. We have also loved taking advantage of the sunny weather to paint outside. Our latest craft was this easy sponge printed fire truck. It is a great way to introduce kids to a new art technique: printmaking. Using the sponges also makes the craft easy enough to be appropriate for even toddler Toulouse-Lautrecs and preschool Picassos to complete.

Materials:

  • red paint
  • a sponge
  • a sheet of heavy white paper
  • scraps of black, yellow, white and grey construction paper
  • a black marker
  • scissors, glue

Directions:

1. Dip your sponge into red paint, and press it down horizontally towards the centre of your paper:

2. Dip sponge back into paint, and then press it vertically beside the first print you made:

3. While paint is drying, cut two thin grey strips from grey construction paper that are the same length as the sponge. Glue two grey strips just above the side of the fire truck to form its ladder.  Use the black marker to draw lines between the strips, creating the rungs of the ladder:

4. Cut two black circles for wheels, a yellow siren, a white rectange for a window, and a grey rectangle for an electrical panel.  Glue onto fire truck:

5. Add any additional details you would like, such as a stripe along the side, or details on the electrical panel.

Our momstown kids loved creating this fire truck!
