Paper Plate Snowman

Cheerful, easy and fast, making these paper-plate snowmen proved the perfect confidence-building activity for a mom who's afraid of crafts

By Sonia Verma

Description

It's no secret I'm scared of crafts. But with a very publicly shared new year's resolve to face that fear, I lucked out. Gina Bell's cheerful paper-plate snowman garland from our media partner CBC Parents seemed fun, and not terribly daunting. I showed the picture to my 4-year-old crafting mentor, and she agreed I could handle it.

Our results were nowhere near as polished as Ms. Bell's on CBC Parents. We'll say it's because our plates were too big. The important thing is we had a ton of fun doing this, and are going to make a few more so we can turn them into a garland.

Are you scared of crafts? Try this one. It's easy and will fill you with confidence.

Supplies

  • Paper plates
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Glue
  • Pom poms
  • Googly eyes
  • Hole punch (Or something sharp, to be wielded by an adult)
  • Markers, coloured paper and other decoration-ish stuff

Instructions

  • Punch a hole on either edge of the paper plate.

Bend a pipe cleaner into a U-shape and twist one end through each of the holes.

Glue a pom pom to the plate at each end of the pipe cleaner.

Glue on googly eyes (and a nose if you're using orange paper or a feather).

Draw and glue on any other facial features: eyebrows, smile, beard . . . ("You might want to wait before you try the ric-rac, Mumma.")

    Done!
