When it's part of school, it's not sexy
First, the big buzz in Ontario. For the first time in a long time, the province is updating its sex-ed curriculum for elementary students. The improved curriculum — yes, we said IMPROVED — will include teaching younger kids the proper names for their genitals and other body parts, older kids about respecting individual differences in sexual and gender identity, and oh yes, consent.

Here's a Q and A with the province's education minister, courtesy of Today's Parent. And here is a column we agree with, saying these changes are more than welcome and more than overdue.

Knowledge is power, and we want our children to have power over their bodies and eventually their sexual behaviour. And no, teaching children about the human body and how to respect theirs and others' bodies is NOT the same as telling them it's okay to have sex in elementary school. Perhaps the curriculum's critics should take the time to read it first.
