20 Winter Break Activities for Kids

December 14, 2013momstownSeasonalNo comments

The kids will be off of school in a week for their winter break and I need to plan just how we will keep busy this year!  I love the idea of doing 24 activities for this Advent Calendar, but I just didn’t have time to get it coordinated…so, I’m doing 14 Days of Activities envelopes for my boys- starting on their first day of Christmas Holidays from school.  Many moms and kids will be attending momstown events this holiday and having fun in their community, so for them and all parents, here are 20 activities for you and your kids to have fun together this winter break!

20 winter break activities for kids

Here are 20 Days of Activities to do with your Kids this Winter Break!

1. Pajama day all day with Christmas movie marathon!

2. Make your gift list and let’s shop for our family, then get wrapping with some hot chocolate and Christmas music!  Finished your shopping?  Just do some wrapping up of toys around the house!  Great fine motor skill practice!

3. Let’s drive to a location in your city or town and donate Tim Hortons to people on the street or find another way to give back to those in need.

4.  Bake together- like making Nana’s shortbread.

5.  Today is a day to read with each other.  Share your favourite books and swap different endings!

6.  Write notes to each other to tell the ones you love, why they are so special.

7.  Bring some snow INSIDE to have some fun sensory play with mom and dad!

8.  Go skating together!  Try an outdoor pond if you’ve never tried it!

9.  Have a day of making crafts.  Grab your craft bins, toilet rolls and have with these themes; Christmas, Snowman or even Pirates (kid’s choice)!

10.  Kid’s choice for dinner!  This means finding a recipe (like these silly face pizzas), making your list (or cut out pictures from a flyer) and taking a trip to the grocery store together to get the ingredients.

11.  Are you a little scientist?  Have fun creating magic mud and your own silly putty!

12.  Have a cupboard and toy clean up day. Everyone pitches in to organize all of the new things and get rid of older toys to donate.

13.  Make a New Year’s Eve party just for the kids!  How about trying a fondue and making decorations!

14.  Outdoor Fun today!  Try one of these 10 ideas for winter activities.

15.  Find 3 toys you haven’t played with in 6 months and remember why they were so much fun!  Even better- invite some friends over for a play date and ask them to bring 3 of their toys and swap for a week!

16.  Hit mom and dad’s closet or the costume bin and play dress up all day- restaurants at meal time, school, hotel, whatever you like!

17.  Host a Candy Cane hunt or use a map to play hide and seek!  Whether you have it inside or out, it’s still tons of fun!

18.  Cold outside?  No problem!  Throw a beach party or luau INSIDE and spend the day at the beach!

19.  Put on a concert and perform your favourite songs!  First, you’ll need to make a shaker, drum or microphone then you can make tickets and set up chairs for the audience in your family room!

20.  After an amazing holiday together, write a special journal or scrapbook with memories from this year!

Happy Holidays!
