Salt Dough Valentine’s Necklace

momstown had a Valentine’s party and everyone made their own necklace—a true one-of-a-kind piece of art, fun for kids of all ages

What you need:

  • Salt dough* (add red food colouring)
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutters
  • Ribbons
  • Pencil, straw or skewer to poke hole in heart
  • Paint

*Stir together 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1-1/2 cups cold water (maybe a bit less), 2 Tbsp oil. Stir until a soft dough forms.

Have kids help roll the dough – a great sensory activity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

valentine necklaceCut dough with heart-shaped cookie cutters. Poke holes large enough to thread a ribbon through them. Bake at 300 F for an hour.

 

 

 

 

 

 

valentine necklaceWhen cooled, paint with red, pink, white and purple paint—any way your child likes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

valentine necklaceLet dry. Thread a ribbon through the hole, and you have a handmade Valentine's necklace!
