October 3, 2013momstownRecessNo comments
momstown’s moms are feeling thankful for our literacy programs this October! What a great time to talk turkey or about what being Thankful really means.

We have books for all ages, so while you are creating turkey crafts and cooking your family meal this Thanksgiving, take some time to read some of these 5 special books for all ages.

Babies & Toddlers

I‘m No Turkey! by Hans Wilhelm
The unsuspecting family dog is excited to have everyone over for Thanksgiving… until the children decide to dress him up like a turkey! He finds a way to turn his costume into something he likes… and figures that someone else can be the turkey! Cute, short story that could probably be read more than once in a playgroup.

Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks by Margaret Sutherland
Thanksgiving is about pilgrims and history-and turkey, of course!-but most importantly, it's a holiday all about everything that we are thankful for. Cheerful, colourful illustrations accompany the simple text in this celebration of family, friends, and the holiday that brings them all together.

Toddlers & Preschoolers

A Turkey for Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting
The Moose family is having everyone over for Thanksgiving, and they‘re very excited. But Mr. Moose wishes they could have a real turkey for Thanksgiving. With the help of his animal friends, he finds one cowering in the bushes… a turkey who is very surprised to find that he‘s been invited to Thanksgiving as a guest (not an entree!) Cute twist!

All Ages

What is Thanksgiving? by Michelle Medlock Adams
Using whimsical art and rhyming verse, the author helps even the youngest child understand that Thanksgiving is really about showing gratitude for all the blessings in our lives.
