Spring Into Summer

May 5, 2017momstownReal LifeNo comments

It’s that time of year again! The time when we try frantically to get in shape or rev ourselves up for summer. With summer only a few weeks away, we have a few tips that will help you spring into summer and kick start your mind and body.

Eat Smart

With all the panic on trying to slim down for summer, changing just a couple of things in your diet can help you feel better. And that’s more important!

  • Go nuts. Nuts are rich in protein and vitamins that having a handful of nuts will help you avoid the afternoon snack binge
  • Avoid sugar. Even just eliminating sugary drinks for a week will help you feel better. Want to step it up, avoid the salt too. Salt is a huge culprit for bloating. Remember, that doesn’t have to mean bland. Fruits are loaded with natural sugar and are deliciously tasty.
  • Go green. Adding green to you diet will allow you to eat more and not feel bad about it. Plus, certain greens can give you an energy boost. Green energy boosters include: avocados (yum), arugula, asparagus and fennel.

It’s all about H2O

Just like we use moisturizer for our bodies, H20 hydrates our insides. Water helps us stay hydrated, can lead to better skin and prevent premature aging. Think water is too bland for you, why not add some mint and lime to rev up the flavour. Want to 2.0? Ditch the booze (eeks!).  It tastes great, but it dehydrates you.

Catch more Zzz’s

This one is a no-brainer. The more rested you are, the more alert you are. With the stresses of our everyday lives, who doesn’t want an excuse to wind down and sleep more? The truth is, we can all do it. I think most of us choose not to.  You don’t require yoga for more zen…you just need more sleep! Food for thought: Eating less fiber and more saturated fats and sugar is associated with lighter and disruptive sleep. Check out Arianna Huffington’s The Sleep Revolution for a great read.

Move! Move! Move!

As Canadians, we relish warm weather because we get to spend it outdoors. It’s winter’s fault. So even if it’s taking a walk, riding a bike or going to the playground with your kids, moving is essential. Moving helps our mind and body stay young. It’s no wonder; play is key in the development of young ones.  So get your sneakers or sandals out and get outside. Get moving!

Summer is just around the corner…you got this!
