Gallery-Great Snowman Art—At Home

January 22, 2015momstownRecessNo comments
Canvas art sounds fancy, but whips up fast and easily. Try these cute and eye-catching snowmen with your kids, or watch them paint an entirely unique creation of their own!

By Ann-Marie Burton

This adorable canvas art came home from school with my child but  we had to share! It's great  example of a multi-step craft. momstown loves the vibrant colours and creativity that each child brought to these whimsical snowmen. Younger children could take a break between steps – it is all up to the creator!

What you need:

  • Paintable canvas (available at dollar stores)
  • Blue and white paint
  • Sponges cut into circles
  • Foamy shapes
  • Sharpie markers

Step 1: have children paint the canvas blue, leaving a strip a the bottom white (to represent the snow).

Step 2: Stamp with white paint and circle sponges, to create snowmen with 2 or 3 stacked circles.

Step 3: Decorate snowmen with foamy shapes for hats, scarves, buttons, etc. The peel-back sticky ones are easiest for kids to work with.

Step 4: Use a sharpie marker to add eyes, nose and mouth.

Gallery-worthy work – and each picture will be unique!
