R is for Rainbow- teach your child the colours in the rainbow

September 16, 2013momstownRecessNo comments
Having fun with the alphabet and starting to recognize letters is the best part of our monthly Alphabet Play programs at momstown. Each month, a new letter or group of letters is the focus of our event; from books and crafts to songs and parachute time!

momstown Hamilton had fun with the letter R!  Take the opportunity to learn about things that start with R like "rainbow" and even learn more about the colours!  Does your child know about ROYGBIV?  This is the short form to remember the colours and their order in a rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet)!

Materials:

construction paper in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

safety scissors

glue

Directions:

1.  Have precut strips of construction paper in all the colours of the rainbow.  Older children might want to do this themselves (easiest if you have lines drawn on the paper to guide their cutting).  Repeat the colours until you have covered the paper.

2.  Once the rainbow colours are glued down, trace a large R outline on the strips.

3.  Cut out your rainbow R!
