Preschooler gift idea: Leapfrog Leapband

Make it fun for kids ages 4 to 7 to get up and moving with an activity tracker that promotes active play and healthy habits

By Diana Dunnell

How many mamas have a Fitbit to help them keep in shape? I'm one, and that's the simplest way to explain the Leapfrog Leapband for kids.  A kids' activity tracker, it's so much fun and an awesome gift idea for a toddler, preschooler or young child!

Oh, and did I mention, it's waterproof!

My daughter has so much fun with it, and I have to say, I'm a little jealous that my Fitbit isn't as cute or as much fun as this Leapband.

The Leapband promotes healthy development in the areas of:

  • Food & Nutrition
  • Gross Motor Skills
  • Health & Hygiene

My four-year-old daughter received one as a gift, and it has been a great toy!  It's not one of those toys that kids forget about after a few hours — she keeps going back to it over and over.

Plus, it keeps her entertained for a long time, day after day — a bonus for parents!

So what sets the Leapband apart?

  • The Leapband encourages active play and healthy eating habits with the help of a customizable pet pal and a slew of appealing rewards. These pets "live" in the band to help guide tots through the activity challenges.
  • It has lots of games that are educational and promotes movement: These include Pet Boogie (a dancing game); Pet Chef (collects healthy food items); Pet Salon (teaches proper hygiene) and other challenges that get kids moving, like "Pop like a popcorn," "Wiggle like a worm," etc.
  • Parents can then track their kids' activity through parental controls. This is amazing! Once the device is connected to a parent's computer, the parent can "lock" the Leapband so the energy bar and activity games can only be seen during certain times (e.g. non-school hours). During off hours, the band is like a digital watch, but still tracks and records your child's movement.

My daughter just loves checking in all the time.

She likes to move as it asks her ("move like a robot").

She takes it everywhere with her to ensure she stays on track.

It keeps her active, engaged and it's educational!  The other day, she went to grab herself a glass of water. I was shocked but delighted that she was keeping up with her water in-take. And it was all because her Leapband pet asked her to do it.

From one mama to another: This is a great gift!  I highly recommend it!

Your tot will thank you for it.
