Kids who seriously rock; Mums who spend all day getting nothing done; and of course, the Oscars, LEGO and all

Kid Rock
Ever wonder how such a small person can make such a big noise? Finally, some kids who use their powers for good! (The talent behind the actual track is Burlington, Ont., musician Adam Cooke)

Not really pushing the envelope, please
Did you watch the Oscars? This editor didn't exactly. Maybe it's my age, but award shows via Twitter and day-after-roundups is turning out to be way more fun than waiting out interminable nonsense between the good parts. So based on that, here's what happened:

  • Reese Witherspoon shut down moronic questions about her clothing.
  • Neil Patrick Harris' opening number rocked, then he kinda fizzled, then he rocked again.
  • There were LEGO Oscars handed out.
  • John Travolta was mocked for being creepy, and made up for screwing up Idina Menzel's name a year ago.
  • And several winners made rousing, "Hell Yeah!" acceptance speeches, offering a brief but powerful reminder amid the glitz that movies can offer both an escape and a call to action.

Coming Soon . . .
And coming soon to a screen near you, Google prepares to release its YouTube Kids app, with a kid-friendly design and parental controls. Stay tuned.
