How to Make a “Snowboard” with your child

February 20, 2014momstownRecessNo comments
We have been learning a lot about the Olympics and gearing up for the Winter Games coming soon! My son has been watching several videos of downhill skiing and snowboarding and decided that he wanted to make his own snowboard and try it at home!

Checking out our craft and recycling bins, we came up with a fun way to have our own Olympic games at home in the snow!

Materials:

old cardboard boxes (cereal boxes are a great width)

glue

stapler

scissors

tape

paint or crayons to decorate

foil (to "waterproof" it)

pair of boots or shoes

Directions:

1.  Grab some old cardboard boxes and cut them so they are flat.

2.  Have your child stand on them to determine the length and width you will need for them to "pretend" to snowboard.  Cut the board to the correct size (ours is about 3' by 1').

3.  Cut two strips about 2-3 inches wide, and staple them in a loop and then attach to the board (see image for positioning).  Make sure the loop is large enough for your child's foot in boots or even socks!

4.  Decorate your "snowboard" and make it you own!  My son wanted to try it outside, so we wrapped it all in foil to protect the cardboard.  I would definitely recommend that this stays inside and you play "pretent" Olympics with your child!
