How to Make The Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat with Pipe Cleaners

February 24, 2014momstownRecessNo comments
Dr. Seuss’ beloved story “The Cat in the Hat” features that infamous cat and his red and white striped hat! You can create his hat with pipe cleaners and a toilet roll using a way that helps your child learn to make patterns!

We love using left over Christmas or Valentine's Day red and white pipe cleaners to make this toilet roll Cat in the Hat craft!

Materials:

toilet roll

10 red pipe cleaners

10 white pipe cleaners

tape

cotton balls or red and white pom poms

Directions:

1.  Alternating red and white, twist the ends of about 8 pipecleaners together to make a long line.  Preschoolers can practice making a simple AB pattern with this step.

2.  Gently wind the pipecleaners around a toilet roll.

3.  Secure with tape or glue at each end, if necessary.

4.  Add cotton puffs or red and white pom poms to the bottom to complete your hat.
