Family Travel – 8 Tips For Travelling With Your Infant

March 14, 2017christineRecessNo comments

Are you taking a trip with your little one soon? Following these tips will help to make the trip go smoothly so that you can spend your time deciding what activity to do with the family rather than worrying about all the other things!

Plan for stops

Taking a road trip? Plan it out so that you can stop every so often. Whether it’s during meal/snack time or just to walk around for a bit, those stops can break up the trip and make for fewer meltdowns!

Snacks, snacks, and more snacks

Now is the time to pack those favourite snacks! Crackers, chips, cut up fruit, cheese, formula, juice boxes and anything else that you can think of. Whatever you would pack on a typical day out, pack that plus more. Getting caught in those hangry moments is never fun, airplane snacks can be expensive, and sometimes gas stations are few and far between on road trips.

*Snack buying tip. Skip the small bags and pack your own into Ziploc bags and bring your own homemade treats. This will help to save some money and maybe give you a little bit more cash towards something else on your trip.

Extra diapers & wipes!

Pack whatever you think you’ll need for travelling and then pack a little more! Wipes are useful for more than just diaper changes. From wiping down surfaces, cleaning off dropped toys, and messy meals. And diapers, well let’s just say that being in the position where you’ve used the last one in a place where no other diapers are to be found clearly isn’t a situation that you want to be in!

Bring a change of clothes

You never know what will happen on your travels. From blowouts to messy food and everything in between it’s better to have a few back-ups just in case! Worried about the space that it may take up? Using this mom hack will help you out for sure! (And maybe everyone in the family)

New toys + other fun things

Having something ‘new” can mean all the difference to keeping your little ones attention. Whether you choose to pick up a couple of new toys or bring along a few favourites that you’ve stashed away specifically to bring out for the trip. Packing colouring items such as Crayola Mess Free colouring items is great way for your kids to get creative but without the mess!

Sleeping on an airplane

Travelling on an airplane with a little one can be tough, especially during nap time! Bringing along their favourite blanket, stuffed animal, or comfort items is definitely important, and planning your flights as best as you can during their regular sleep times can help. Other items such as the 1st Class Kids Travel Pillow might also be helpful if they have their own seat. (Just be sure to check with your airline first to see if it can be used)

Skip the stroller

Sometimes the bulkiness of a stroller is more of a headache than a convenience. With so many options baby carriers that you can use for newborns all the way to toddlers, a carrier can add the convenience of having your child close to you with still having the use of your hands. It’s also way less bulky to pack!

Other extras

Pain relievers, soothers, diaper cream, and lotion are all those extras to remember to pack. Being prepared for those just in case moments is key to keeping things running smoothly!  Adding a few rolled up Ziploc in a side pocket of your carry-on, diaper bag, or somewhere convenient that you can access is also a great idea! They work great for storing dirty clothes, food items, and more!
