Christmas morning often comes mighty early with keen children who can't wait to head downstairs to open up their presents. Presents in our PJs is what a lot of families do which leaves very little time, if any, for preparing breakfast.
If you're looking for make ahead ideas, creative holiday themed ideas or just something to eat beside the tree – here are some of momstown's picks for great breakfast solutions.
Make Ahead Breakfasts
Baked French Toast with Pralines – a terrific make-the-night-before solution that you can simply pop into the oven to bake while presents are being opened.
Quiche is a good thing to make ahead and just warm up in the morning. Our quiche roundup lists Broccoli Quiche, Asparagus Quiche, Crustless Quiche, Quiche Lorraine and something called a Bacon and Egg Pie.
Without fail, one of our most popular recipes is the (poorly named) Wife Saver Casserole. It's a make ahead strata that requires a quick assembly the night before, an evening in the fridge to settle and soak and then a short time in the oven before breakfast. I suppose it was/is a "wife saver" just wish it was called the Breakfast Saver casserole…
Creative Breakfast Ideas
I love this idea! Rudolph Pancakes are simple (basic pancakes) but adapted to make super seasonal and just plain fun! LOVE these!
We found these Christmas tree cinnamon rolls at Munchkin Munchies– aren't these perfect for Christmas morning?
So you were going to make a fruit salad or perhaps toss some clementines onto the coffee table. What about this idea? Takes the old fruit salad up a notch! What child would refuse a Fruit Candy Cane made of bananas and strawberries? Brilliant idea!
Eat By the Tree
Sticky Bun Breakfast Ring just sounds like a perfect snack to rip apart casually with a giant mug of hot coffee. Throw in some fruit for good measure and call your breakfast delightful!
We're muffin and quick bread fans in this house and a favourite of my kids is our Ultimate Family Pumpkin Bread and Banana Bran Muffins. Always a hit. Yummy enough to distract them from brand new toys to eat.
Add in good coffee, set up a little juice bar, some nice cheese and fruit and your holiday breakfast is fully well rounded. Have an excellent breakfast with your family!
