5 Great Gingerbread Stories for Toddlers and Preschoolers

December 10, 2014momstownParentingNo comments
Children love the classic tale of the Gingerbread man who ran and ran and ran . . . and Christmastime, when the edible gingerbread comes out, is a perfect time to celebrate gingerbread stories. We love the classic tale, but we’ve also found some twists on the traditional story, including a Gingerbread Bunny, a Gingerbread Girl, and a Gingerbread Baby. Choose from these books for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers

By Ally Cooper

The Gingerbread Man    by Ronne Randall

A touch and feel book telling the story of the gingerbread man. Children can repeat the "run, run, as fast as you can, you can’t catch me! I’m the Gingerbread Man!" on each page. Board book with great textures to explore.

Gingerbread Friends    by Jan Brett

The Gingerbread Baby lives inside a gingerbread house, but decides he needs some adventure! So he leaves the house to find some friends of his own. He tries to befriend different baked goods in a bakery, but they don’t move or answer him. So he runs back home, where he finds that gingerbread friends were waiting at his gingerbread house the whole time! Very cute and great illustrations.

Gingerbread Mouse    by Katy Bratun

A little mouse has her home ruined by a falling branch, and has to find another place to live. She spies a gingerbread house through a window, and decides to live there, but when she has a chance encounter with Santa, she finds an even better home! The perfect Christmas-themed story.

The Gingerbread Bunny    by Jonathan Allen

This lift-the-flap book is a take on the gingerbread boy story – but this time it’s a gingerbread bunny. Can the gingerbread bunny outrun those who chase him? Or will he meet the same end as the gingerbread man?

The Gingerbread Girl    by Lisa Campbell Ernst

Another take on the classic story, but this time the gingerbread boy’s sister is the main character (the gingerbread girl!). She meets up with the famous fox, but comes to a much different end than her brother, as she is able to tame the fox and use him as transportation!
