If you’re like me, you chose not to have your child cry it out when they were smaller (and no, I’m not judging you either way), chances are pretty high that you have spent some time lying in bed next to your child, waiting for them to fall asleep. If so, you can probably identify pretty strongly with that now-classic parenting book, “Go The F*ck To Sleep,” by Adam Mansbach. It’s a trial for your patience on the best of nights, and on the worst, it’s downright aneurysm-inducing.
Some nights, I’m able to lie next to my son and read on my iPad while he’s falling asleep, but other nights, any source of light is a source of distraction from the task of winding down. And so, I lie there, alone with my thoughts. Here are 24 things that go through my head on any given night, while I’m waiting for my son to fall asleep. Maybe you can relate?
The fact is, even though it can be boring and annoying at times to lie there and wait for my kid to fall asleep, if I really stop to think about it, I realize just how luck I am. I’m his mom. He adores me. And the truth of the matter is, I adore him, too.
