I know, everyone loves their children, as I love my son, although he is not the "best" toddler in the world.
In fact, he is what everyone else calls a "spirited" child, meaning crazy, but in a nicer way. He doesn't listen very well, he drives and smashes his trucks on or into our dog. He constantly says "No way" and fights me to pee in the potty, eat his dinner and clean up his toys. Being a parent is so difficult, but sometimes our children can say or do the cutest things to make all those crazy times seem to just melt away.
Here are the reasons why I love my toddler;
Reason #1: When I'm late and stuck in traffic, he knows I am frustrated, and says "don't worry mama, calm down, it's okay" which always makes me smile and I realize that we really don't need to rush.
Reason #2: When he was sick and threw up all night, he said "thanks for all your help mama." I said "For what baby?" and he responded "For cleaning me and my bed."
Reason #3: Being an only child, he has a hard time sharing with other children, but always shares with his mama.
Reason #4: I am home from work today, and normally his father does his nursery school pick up and drop off, but this morning he said, "Papa, you stay home, mama will come and get me." I know who his favourite parent is.
Reason #5: We are expecting baby #2. My little man is constantly hugging my tummy, saying "I'm hugging my sister" which is super cute.
Reason #6: The first time a sang him the song "On top of spaghetti", aka the "Meatball song", he cried at the end when I sang "then my poor meatball was nothing but mush." He doesn't even eat meatballs, but is a sensitive soul.
Reason #7: If I'm home, he won't go to bed unless I come and sing to him. His papa will sing to him but it's not as good as his mom, and trust me, I don't have a good singing voice.
Reason #8: In October we lit candles for the babies that I have lost (surviving 6 miscarriages). We sat around the kitchen table and when all the candles were lit, he started to sing "Happy Birthday" which turned my tears into a huge smile. I gave him the biggest hug and told him that was the best thing that he could ever have done for me.
Reason #9: As my tummy has been growing and I am getting bigger, he will now comes over and try to help lift me off the couch.
Reason #10: I think the best feeling in the world is when I pick him up from nursery school and he runs up to me and says "oh mama, I love you".
It's so funny, I could be having the worst day in the world, lost my keys, worried that we can't pay bills this month and he will say or do the cutest thing and it all seems to disappear.
I love my son and I hope his sister is just as sweet as he is.
